Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The Thai military are ready to assist Laos in search and rescue operations for villagers reportedly missing due to the current flooding in southern Laos.
Ministry of Defence Spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered military units to assist the Lao authorities in the search and rescue operations for the missing flood victims in southern Laos.
The Thai military will establish a joint command to provide personnel from the army, navy and air forces, as well as equipment and vehicles such as C130 aircraft and boats. They are currently waiting for an official request from Laos and then the armed forces will deploy the aid operations immediately.
The military spokesman said the defence minister has also instructed military units to review their experience from the search and rescue operations at Tham Luang cave in order to get well prepared for similar situations.-NNT/VNA
