Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thailand’s Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) has approved use of the single-shot COVID-19 vaccineproduced by US pharmaceutical Johnson & Johnson (J&J).
The J&J shot is the third vaccine approved by Thailand after the Sinovacand AstraZeneca jabs.
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the approval showed thatThailand is open to all vaccine manufacturers and is keen to provide morechoices to its people.
He also invited more companies to register their vaccines with the Thai FDA,promising the government would not run a monopoly on vaccines.
According to the FDA, Bharat Biotech International Ltd has submitted somedocuments for approval, while Russia’s Sputnik V, China’s Sinopharm and ModernaInc have shown interest in seeking local approvals./.
Thailand pins hope on vaccine passports
Immediately after Thailand’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign began at the end of last month, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered officials to look into the future use of vaccine passports, reported the Bangkok Post.
