Thailand’s economy may grow 8 percent this year despite widespread flooding since October 10 and the fragile recovery of the global economy, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said during his weekly broadcast on November 28.

According to Abhisit, the National Economic and Social Development Board recently announced that the country's GDP in the third quarter of 2010 increased 7.9 percent year-on-year.

However, he said, some other agencies assessed that economic growth would be lower due to the heavy flooding nationwide and the fluctuating global economy.

"The government's economic stimulus measures, especially measures to restore the flood-affected areas, will be important factors for the economy to continuously develop," the PM said./.
