Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – A delegation of Thua Thien-Hue Border Guard Command on April 15 extended greetings to the armed forces and people living in the neighbouring provinces of Sekong and Salavan in Laos to mark the Bunpimay festival.

The delegation, led by Deputy Commander Colonel Dang Minh Tien, visited A Dot – Ta Vang and Hong Van – Co Tai border gates which connect the Vietnamese central province with Sekong and Salavan, respectively, to greet the Lao border guards, police and people on their traditional New Year of Bunpimay.

During the visits, the two sides also exchanged information on security and crime prevention operations along the shared border in recent times and discussed their cooperation in COVID-19 relief efforts.

The Vietnamese delegation took the occasion to present nearly 50 gift packages, including necessities and medical supplies, to the Lao armed forces and people.

Relations between Thua Thien-Hue and Laos’ Sekong and Salavan provinces as well as their border guard forces have been deepened over recent years with good diplomatic ties and regular exchanges for information sharing; enhanced cooperation in settling common border issues; and strengthened mutual understanding, solidarity and friendship.

The Bunpimay festival was observed from April 13-15 this year to pray for good weather, health, abundant harvests and prosperity./.
