Havana (VNA) – Vietnam and Cuba share a special and historic relationship, and the upcoming state visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to Cuba will mark another significant milestone in their close ties, remarked Luis Enrique González Acosta, President of the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina.

In an interview ahead of the Vietnamese leader, he told the Vietnam News Agency that the upcoming trip continues the bilateral traditional friendship established by their leaders Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Fidel Castro of Cuba.

Each visit by leaders of the two countries is a new step forward in solidifying their friendship, as they provide opportunities for the leaders to meet and discuss ways to further enhance this fraternal relationship, Enrique said.

He held that the political and diplomatic relations between Cuba and Vietnam are at an exceptionally high level and that the upcoming state visit will help elevate bilateral economic and trade relations. This occasion allows both countries to identify new areas of cooperation, enabling Cuba to boost investment in essential products or services in Vietnam, and Vietnam to continue to invest and support the Cuban economy.

According to him, Vietnam, one of Cuba's main trading partners in Asia, has already reaped early successes in agricultural cooperation and investment in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

Enrique went on highlighting the historical nature of the two nations’ relationship and the importance of educating their younger generation about this history. For the special ties to continue flourishing, the journalist recommended their young people need to understand its origins and development, how Cuba supported Vietnam in the past, and how Vietnam is currently assisting Cuba.

Despite the geographical distance, Enrique asserted that when it comes to Vietnam and Cuba, it is about the bond between brothers. He expressed his firm belief that the relationship between their people serves as a solid foundation for the future growth of the countries’ relations./.
