Thailand’s tourism industry will rebound and return to normal from August onward, according to a report issued by TMB Bank’s Economic Analysis Centre.
The report was quoted by MCOT as saying that Thai tourism businesses had already hit the bottom and those in Bangkok was affected most during the political unrest which lasted until the military takeover on May 22.
Average daily arrivals during the unrest at Suvarnabhumi Airport dropped from about 42,000 in January this year to approximately 20,000 in late May. The number of visitors rebounded to 42,500 by mid-August after the military curfew was lifted on June 13, the report said.
The tourism sector is expected to recover from August as the political situation has returned to normal and the martial law will be lifted soon.
The campaigns being launched by the Tourism Authority of Thailand plus the waiving of visa fee for Chinese and Taiwanese tourists between August and October will help boost the purchasing power of more than 1.2 billion THB for these tourists.-VNA
