Toyota Classics 2016 held in HCM City

HCM City (VNA) – The 19th Toyota Classics themed “Opera with a Twist” took place at the Municipal Theatre of Ho Chi Minh City on November 11.

The event was co-organised by Toyota Asia Pacific, Toyota Vietnam and the Vietnam Performing Arts Centre under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This year’s concert featured the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, one of the most unique orchestras of Poland, along with the talented conductor and violist Vaske Vassilev.

The concert comprised seven performances, including world-renowned opera works of like Turandot and Madam Butterfly, which rearranged by the Bristish-Singaporean composer Pamela Tan Nicholson.

The highlight of the concert was the special performance of the song “ASEAN Solidarity” to honour the solidarity of ASEAN countries. It was performed byHCM City’s student assembly.

Vietnamese singer Tung Duong also performed in the concert.

Toyota Classics 2016 is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year. After 18 years, the event has contributed to promoting classical music and the cultural exchange of Vietnam’s talents and well-known international artists.

Total ticket proceeds of the concert were given to charity, activities to support the country’s cultural and arts development. Since 2009, ticket proceeds have been granted to the “Toyota Scholarship for Vietnamese Young Music Talents.-VNA

Local ingredients, cultural roots propel Vietnam’s Michelin journey

One of the clearest examples is Hieu Luc, a modest fish soup eatery on Hai Ba Trung Street in Hanoi, which has been included in the Michelin Selected category for the second consecutive year. Known for its clear, delicately sweet broth made from freshwater perch and mustard greens, the restaurant serves a traditional specialty from Hung Yen province.

ASEAN city leaders explore Hanoi’s heritage sites

At the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, delegates visited the Doan Mon Gate and learnt about the formation and development of the ancient capital through different historical periods at display spaces. They also explored the Kinh Thien Palace’s Dragon Steps (large stone steps with dragon carvings), regarded as the political and ceremonial centre of the imperial citadel during successive Vietnamese dynasties.

The festival featured more than 20 booths offering traditional Vietnamese dishes, including "pho" and spring rolls, alongside activities promoting Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditonal long dress). One of the highlights was the presentation of complimentary Ao Dai to Czech residents and international visitors.
