Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Ministry of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai called for closer coordination between relevant agencies to improve the efficiency of the National Trade Promotion Programme in 2016, aiming to help businesses seek markets and expanding their relationships with foreign partners.

Addressing a conference in Hanoi on January 22 that reviewed the 2015 programme, Hai said it is necessary to outline a detailed plan for the programme. If the programme shows a good performance, it will contribute to the country’s economic development.

In his report at the conference, deputy head of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) Ta Hoang Linh said that as negotiations of new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs) have been completed and signed, the ministry has directed relevant agencies to promote trade promotion activities, which focus on helping enterprises take advantage of opportunities brought by the deal.

According to Linh, the ministry approved 177 projects from 67 units for the 2016 programme, which will be implemented with 90 billion (4.05 million USD) sourced from the State budget. It aims to expand export markets, targeting those participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and the EU-Vietnam FTA (EVFTA), as well as member countries of the Eurasia Economic Union and others from the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Additionally, the ministry will pay attention to the development of the domestic market and promote trade in rural and remote areas, Linh said.

Enterprises were advised to improve the quality of goods, build brand names and promote the application of technology in order to increase goods’ added value. They also need to work to join the global supply chain.

Participants highlighted the significance of the programme, affirming that it contributed to the success of many sectors and the stable development of numerous localities nationwide in 2015.

They said they hope the MoIT will increase its support for the programme in 2016.

According to Bui Huy Son, the programme’s general secretary, the ministry planned to assist key export sectors such as aquaculture, farm produce and food, the woodwork, textiles, leather and footwear.

Thanks to joint efforts from Government management and trade promotion agencies, the programme has helped maintain and expand export markets, develop the domestic market and solve difficulties facing enterprises, Son stressed.-VNA
