As many as 224 traffic accidents occurred across the country during the five-day holiday from April 30-May 4 , killing 117 people and injuring 151 others.
According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, declines were seen in the number of cases (20 cases) and injuries (34 people), while fatalities increased (3 people) compared to the corresponding period last year.
During the holiday, traffic police across the country handled nearly 38,500 traffic law violation cases, the Committee said.
The committee’s report showed that most accidents were caused by motorbikes in national roads and in rural areas. Most common traffic safety violations included overload, not wearing helmets along with drink driving.-VNA
