Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - As Thailand will host the 34th ASEAN Summit from June 20-23, DeputyPrime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, called a meetingwith relevant agencies to discuss preparations for traffic convenience andsafety measures for ASEAN delegates.
On June 17, Gen. Prawitpresided over the meeting of the traffic facilitation and safety subcommitteefor the ASEAN Summit. The meeting was attended by officials from the Royal ThaiPolice, the National Security Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Theofficials discussed their rehearsals, preparations, and operational plans, suchas air transport and water drainage. At this point, all preparations are inplace.
In addition, a trafficfacilitation and safety joint command centre for the ASEAN Summit has been setup to provide around-the-clock security until June 24 this year. Officers willbe deployed in and around the venue of the summit to ensure security and smoothoperation of the event.
The 34th ASEAN Summitwill be held from June 20-23 at the Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel,in Bangkok.
Roads connectingPloenchit and Sarasin intersections will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. onJune 22 to 6 p.m. on June 23. The delegates will be transported fromSuvarnabhumi Airport to their hotels and from their hotels to the meetingvenue. All vehicles are equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) trackingunits.
More than 10,000 policeofficers will be deployed to oversee security in areas around the venue of thesummit, to boost the confidence of foreign leaders.-NNT/VNA
