
Quang Binh (VNA) – A training course washeld in the central coastal province of Quang Binh on May 9 to provide localrelevant forces with necessary knowledge and skills to deal with oil spills andimprove search and rescue efforts.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Le Minh Ngan said oil spills often occur in coastal areas andestuaries.
According to preliminarystatistics, from 1992 to 2017, the country witnessed 140 oil spills in coastalareas, seaports and petrol stations, causing serious economic losses andenvironmental pollution in the long run.
Quang Binh has a coastline of over 116 km with alarge network of rivers, seaports, fishing ports, storm shelters and increasingpetroleum transportation activities.
Therefore, the enhancement of communications anddissemination about plans to deal with oil spills for relevant forces is anurgent task, Ngan said.
Participants were equipped with generalknowledge about the prevention and settlement of oil spill incidents when theypenetrate into aquaculture areas and other sensitive ones.
They were also introduced to the government’sDecree 30 stipulating the organisation of activities to cope with naturaldisasters and improve search and rescue efforts.
The training course was jointlyheld by the National Committee on Disaster Response and Search and Rescue andthe provincial People’s Committee.-VNA
