Tree planting programme takes root in Dien Bien province

The northwestern province of Dien Bien has become the 11th destination of a programme to plant one million trees for Vietnam with a ceremony held in Thanh Nua commune on July 31.
The northwestern province of Dien Bien has become the 11thdestination of a programme to plant one million trees for Vietnamwith a ceremony held in Thanh Nua commune on July 31.

Following the launching ceremony, 40,000 trees were planted at the DocLap (Independence) Cemetery in the commune and other localities inthe province.

The “One million trees for Vietnam ”programme was started in 2012 by the Environment Administration underthe Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam DairyProducts Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk).

In the lasttwo years, nearly 100,000 trees were planted in 10 provinces and citiesunder the programme. An additional 120,000 – 150,000 are expected totake root this year under the programme.-VNA
