Hanoi (VNA) - The Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong province has decided to prosecute a truck driver following a deadly crash on January 21 that killed eight people and injured seven others.
The accident occurred when the truck slammed into pedestrians walking on the side of National Highway 5A in Kim Luong commune, Kim Thanh district.
The eight victims were state employees, veterans and other elderly officials of Kim Luong commune, who were returning home after visiting the local martyrs’ cemetery.
The driver, who was identified as Luong Van Tam, 28, temporarily residing in Hanoi, fled the scene after the accident. He turned himself in to police yesterday evening.
Tam tested positive for meth. He admitted that he was drowsy at the time of the accident. He also admitted to using methamphetamine before.-VNA
