Due to its fardistance from the mainland, Truong Sa district was allowed to hold theelections a week earlier than the day of elections nationwide.
Onsuch islands as Song Tu Tay, Da Thi, Son Ca, Da Nam, Sinh Ton, Nam Yet,Sinh Ton Dong, Co Lin, Da Lon, Len Dao, Truong Sa Lon, Truong Sa Dong,Phan Vinh, An Bang, Thuyen Chai, Da Tay, Da Lat, Tien Nu, Nui Le, TocTan and Da Dong, residents were prioritised casting their ballots beforeofficers and soldiers of military units stationed on these islands.
Major Nguyen Van Tho, head of Sinh Ton Dong island of Sinh Ton communesaid although a rainstorm landed the island a day earlier, it was sunnyon the voting day to cheer up the elections which have been preparedfor nearly a month.
For citizens in the far-off district’s Truong Sa town, elections were viewed as a sacred occasion.
LuongThi Tinh, a local resident, shared her feelings: “Over the past fewdays, I scanned the list of candidates carefully and attended theirmeetings with voters. I will give my ballots to those who havesufficient virtue, capacity, enthusiasm and responsibility to representthe people and nation.”
Closely following theelections on the islands, President of the Truong Sa district FatherlandFront Committee Nguyen Van Thang affirmed that during the elections ofdeputies to the 13 th National Assembly and People’s Councils at alllevels, we learnt what local people on Truong Sa want.
He notedthat deputies of the district People’s Council would perform competentlytheir function of supervising, prompting and examining projects whichhave been and would be carried out on the islands with the aim of makingthe district wealthier and stronger.
Also on May15, more than 8,000 voters in Ka Lang, Mu Ca, Muong Mo and Ta Tongcommunes in Muong Te district of the northern mountainous province ofLai Chau also balloted for deputies to the 13 th National Assembly andPeople’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 tenure./.
