Around 120 young tennis players from home and abroad are competing at the 2014 U18 International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Group 5 tournament which opened in the southern city of Can Tho on July 6.

The competitors, aged from 16 to 18 years, are fighting in four events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles. Many of them are from top tennis-playing countries, including the US, the UK, Russia, India, Australia and Pakistan.

The competition is considered a good chance for young Vietnamese players to learn from foreign rivals.

According to the tournament regulations, the winners will get a trophy and ITF bonus points in lieu of cash prizes. Winner of a single event will receive 30 points, and double event, 20 points.

The event will run at Bai Cat Sports Complex until July 13.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City will host the ITF Junior Circuit from July 12-20.-VNA
