A world conference on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has opened in Doha , gathering representatives of 170 governments, local communities and international organisations.

Forty-two proposals put forward at the conference reflected growing worries about the over-exploitation of forest and marine creatures as well as impacts of climate change on the earth’s bio-resources.

The conference is expected to adopt emergency measures against illegal trade of products from tigers, rhinos, and other endangered species.

The CITES conference is a venue for governments to take actions to protect bio-diversity in their countries in response to the Year of Biodiversity 2010./.
