An ambitious project designed to strengthen the education system’s ability to adapt to sustainable development began in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 24.
The Education for Sustainable Development, which is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, is an initiative funded by the United Nations of Education, Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO) and Samsung Corporation.
UNESCO’s Head Representative in Vietnam Katherine Muller Marin said the project’s objective is to support Vietnam in building a studious society capable of adapting to challenges posed during development, such as climate change, natural disasters and biodiversity imbalances.
She stressed that the harmonious involvement of all relevant parties, including localities and schools, is the focal point of UNESCO’s strategy.
The project, part of a global cooperation agreement between UNESCO and Samsung, has selected Vietnam as the first country in which activities will take place and Thua Thien-Hue as the first province.
Accordingly, the project will organise activities such as starting e-training courses for teachers, widely publicising the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters, guiding accurate risk assessments, and setting up an action plan for potential disasters.
Five primary schools affected by natural disasters across the province have joined the project.-VNA
