UNESCO week highlights culture’s role in development

UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a “Culture and development” week in Hanoi.
The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation(UNESCO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports andTourism, launched a “Culture and development” week from Mar. 5-9 in thecapital city of Hanoi .

This is the first timethe event has been held in Vietnam to review UNESCO-funded projects onculture and development and set orientations to enhance culture’s rolein sustainable development.

A wide range ofactivities will be held during the week, including policy dialogues andseminars on culture and tourism in relation with social development inVietnam.

On the framework of the event, audiences inHanoi will have chances to enjoy free film screenings, introducingdocumentaries made by young Vietnamese filmmakers. Thedocumentaries, produced during training courses funded by UNESCO,examine different cultural aspects from a community perspective. Theyaddress various issues and challenges the Vietnamese society faces,including ethnic minorities’ integration in Hanoi, and the life ofresidents under Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi.-VNA
