The Binh Duong-based Eastern International University (EIU) has been training 1,300 students since it was operational two years ago and as many as 140 enterprises have recruited the students even though they have not graduated yet.
In addition to those businesses, nearly 5,000 others run by Becamex IDC. Corp in the province’s industrial zones are ideal venues for students to practice what they have learned at school, said the university’s rector, Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, at a working section with the Vietnam Private University Association (VPUA) on April 1.
The goal of the EIU is to train human resources that meet the demands of businesses and can work immediately after graduation, he said.
VPUA Chairman Tran Hong Quan spoke highly of the EIU’s efforts in fulfilling enrolment targets set by the Ministry of Education and Training, with an average of 100 students for each major.
The training model the EIU is applying, which bases on certificates and has three terms per year, excluding extra lessons during the summer, is a new approach to modern teaching method that helps reduce training time and enables students to graduate ahead of four-year schedule, he said.
It’s good for the school to apply an international standard curriculum for training human resources that will work for FDI enterprises operating in Binh Duong, he noted, adding that it has created a new momentum for the southern province to attract more investment.
The EIU now has 7 majors at bachelor degree, including Electronics & Electricity Engineering Technology, Monitoring Techniques and Automation, Electronic Mechanical Engineering Technology, Soft Techniques, Media and Computer Network, Business Administration and Nursing.
With the curriculum composed under the international standards AACSB and ABET with the assistance of the US’s Portland State University, the EIU will be the door for students to get “transnational education at hometown” with Vietnamese cost or transferring to a foreign university or entering universities in the US.-VNA
