A disaster prevention and response centre funded by the Command of the US Navy officially went into operation on March 30 in central Quang Ngai province.
Construction on the three-storey centre began in June 2014. It was built at a total investment of more than 420,000 USD.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Rena Bitter said that the centre will help Quang Ngai province effectively respond to disasters, serving as a shelter for locals and providing a contact and communication point.
The centre is one of many being built in Vietnam by the US to mark 20 years since the normalisation of bilateral diplomatic ties between the two nations, she added.-VNA
