The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has approved a sum of 288,000 USD in non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) to fund wind power projects in Vietnam.

The technical assistance project will run until August 2014 and will evaluate the effect of integrating wind power into the national electricity grid.

The project will define the scale of the impact and provide recommendations on appropriate regulation. It also aims to review the management of the electricity market to ensure a sustainable power supply.

According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam has only two wind power farms with a total capacity of 60 MW in central coastal Binh Thuan and southern Bac Lieu provinces. These facilities are already connected to the national grid.-VNA
