US President arrives in Vietnam for DPRK-USA summit

US President Donald Trump arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, at 20:58 hours on February 26 for his second summit with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un, and bilateral activities in Vietnam.

– US President Donald Trump arrivedat Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, at 20:58 hours on February 26 for hissecond summit with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un, and bilateral activities inVietnam.

President Trump was welcomed by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office MaiTien Dung, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Chairmanof the Hanoi city People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Deputy Minister ofPublic Security Bui Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the President’s Office Chu VanYem, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc.

During his trip to Vietnam,President Trump will have meetings with Vietnamese high-ranking leaders.

This is the second time the US President hascome to Vietnam. In November 2017, he paid an official visit to Vietnam andattended the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the central coastal city of DaNang.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting WhiteHouse Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney will attend bilateral and multilateralactivities of President Trump in Hanoi.

On February 26 afternoon, Deputy Prime Ministerand Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had talks with US Secretary of State MikePompeo, during which the two sides agreed to prioritise the exchange ofdelegations, especially high-level ones, in 2019, looking toward to thecelebration of the 25th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020.

Vietnam and the US will continue regarding tradeand investment cooperation as a driving force for the bilateral relations,while enhancing cooperation in education-training and people-to-peopleexchanges.

In the morning the same day, Chairman of theWorkers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of theDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un arrived in Hanoi toattend the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit on February 27-28 and pay an official friendlyvisit to Vietnam.

The second summit between DPRK and USA leaders in Hanoi isconsidered an important political and diplomatic event of Vietnam in 2019, avivid manifestation of Vietnam’s policy of being a friend and trustworthypartner of the international community. During only a short time, Vietnam hascompleted logistics, security and protocol preparations for the importantinternational event.

Via the event, Vietnam wants to prove itself as atrustworthy partner and a safe and friendly destination for a sustainable peace.-VNA
