Indonesia and the US have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in green technology on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings from October 1 – 8 in Bali, Indonesia.

Under this MoU, Sintesa Group and SunEdison Energy from the US will assist Indonesia’s State-owned Angkasa Pura I company to build solar power plants in four airports in Bali, Surabaya, Makassar and Balikpapan.

The construction of the 15 MW-capacity plants will start at the end of 2014.

President Director of Angkasa Pura I, Tommy Soetomo, said that the construction of the solar power plants are necessary to create eco-airports.

The construction of the plants aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (Co2) produced by the aviation sector – which contributes to 2 percent of climate change – as part of a target set by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation.-VNA
