Funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), theproject aims to increase preventive health services and community-basedcare for people living with HIV/AIDS and contribute to realising thenational programme for fighting the disease.
Apart from Hai Phong, the seven-year project also covers Quang Ninh and Nghe An province.
Targeted groups include drug users who have not been tested for HIV insix months, people living with HIV who have not registered foroutpatient treatment or have failed to follow treatment schedules, sexworkers who use drugs, the sexual partners of people living with HIV,and drug users.
The project’s objectives includeimproving preventive medicine services and care for people living withHIV/AIDS and increasing the capacity of the target groups.
In Hai Phong, 6,705 people are expected to benefit from the project, with 6,034 people tested for HIV.
To fulfil the target, the project will establish a network ofcommunity support staff, enhance communications to raise awareness amongthe target group and supply mobile testing and patient record services.
Hai Phong is one of the country’s most vulnerablelocalities in HIV/AIDS prevention and control. The city is believed tohave about 11,000 people living with HIV with only 7,300 are currentlyreceiving community-based care and treatment.-VNA
