Held from March 26 to 31 at the Temple of Literature, Hanoi Art Fair 2025 — themed “Colorful Village of Arts” — brings together 12 artists and creative studios, transforming the historic site into a vibrant hub for contemporary works with the goal of making art more accessible to the public.

For the first time, the ancient brick walls, wide courtyards, and traditional architecture of Van Mieu serve as a striking backdrop for modern art. Visitors can admire both Vietnam’s cultural heritage and contemporary pieces in a unique, immersive experience.

Architect and painter Bui Thanh Viet Hung - Lecturer at Hanoi Architectural University

“The idea of hosting this event at Van Mieu began about a year ago. In March 2024, they collaborated with international artists to organize the first VietnamInAcquarello watercolor exhibition at the site. “At the end of that show, Vietnamese artists came together with a new idea — the very exhibition you see here today”.

The contrast between contemporary art and the historic setting creates a powerful bridge between past and present.

Painter Minh Dam - Head of Hanoi Art Fair 2025 organizing committee “Works showcased here, though modern, still carry strong traditional and historical elements.”

Each artist brings a unique world and story, told through diverse colors and materials. Visitors will see familiar scenes of Hanoi—but through an entirely new lens.

Director Ninh Quang Truong - Vietnam Television

“You’ll find a variety of beautiful artworks from both individual artists and studios. What stands out is the diversity—in materials, subjects, and styles. Many of the pieces reflect themes close to the public's heart—city corners, flowers, portraits.”

Flo - Visitor from Paris

I don’t think the artist’s name is on the wall, but they use a really unique technique with lacquer. The work is incredibly meticulous. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’m really impressed.

Polish-Vietnamese artist Minh Dam drew praise for his delicate watercolor collection displayed in the heritage space, offering a beautiful fusion of East and West. Meanwhile, artists Ngoc Linh and Thuy Anh drew attention with their modern interpretation of Van Mieu’s architecture—boldly contrasting the historic surroundings.

Artist Thuy Anh

“My husband and I are fortunate to be among the 12 artists featured. I used bold colors and a loose, expressive style to convey personal emotions and offer a multi-faceted view of Van Mieu.”

Artist Ngoc Linh

“I always try to highlight familiar, often-overlooked corners of Van Mieu. My work is in black ink on white paper—simple and consistent with my style over the years.”

From vibrant oil paintings and delicate watercolors to soft silk strokes, every piece contributes to a colorful mosaic that complements the cultural and architectural heritage of Van Mieu.

Bruno Mino from France

Amazing place where you can see the roots of Vietnam—the roots of the Vietnamese civilization. And it seems that you are out of time in the Temple of Criture. I love the architecture. I love the people who work here—they are very good and very kind with us.

With its theme “Colorful Village of Arts,” Hanoi Art Fair has successfully awakened a quiet heritage site, turning it into a dynamic, living gallery.

The event remains open to visitors through March 31, offering a must-see experience for art lovers and anyone eager to explore traditional culture in a fresh, engaging way./.
