Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan had a meeting with Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, Abdou Diouf, in Paris on June 6.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing 24th Global Summit of Women, the State leader told Diouf that she will lead a Vietnamese delegation to join the Francophonie Summit in Senegal in November this year and that Vietnam will do all it can to contribute to the success of the event.

She hailed the establishment of the Francophone Gender Equality Network, while suggesting that the organisation should strengthen cooperation in enhancing gender equality and the role of women.

She also thanked Francophone countries for their support and help during Vietnam’s national liberation and construction.

Briefing Diouf on the current situation in the East Sea , Vice President Doan reiterated Vietnam ’s stance of not using or threatening to use force and settling disputes through peaceful methods in conformity with international law, including the International Organisation of La Francophonie’s Charter.

For his part, Diouf highly valued Vietnam ’s contributions in boosting Francophone cooperation in various areas.

He underscored the significance of strengthening gender equality as well as the struggle against violence and discrimination against women, stating that Francophone community should take the lead in the work.

Mentioning the East Sea issue, Diouf voiced support to Vietnam ’s policy of solving disputes through peaceful measures suitable with international law.

He also emphasised that he and the Francophone community always back Vietnam – a responsible member of the community - with strongest solidarity.-VNA
