Vietnam and Thailand on February 28 agreed to boost co-operation in the education sector as part of efforts to strengthen their strategic partnership as they integrate into the ASEAN Community expected to be formed in 2015.

Visiting Thai Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang said that Thailand appreciated the teaching of foreign languages in Vietnam , especially those of neighbouring countries.

He said enhancing mutual understanding and co-operation was crucial as Southeast Asian nations worked to become an ASEAN community.

He called for greater bilateral co-operation in job training and educational reform so that the workforce of both nations can meet foreign investors' requirements. Vietnam has huge potential to attract foreign investment, the Thai minister said.

Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan said he hopes the numbers of Vietnamese students and teachers to study in Thailand and vice versa would increase.

He requested the Thai Government to continue its support for teaching Vietnamese in Thailand as well as in establishing language study centres in both nations.-VNA
