Vietnam active at ITU plenary session

As a representative of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), Vietnam presented five regional proposals at the 19th International Telecommunication Union (ITU) plenary session, which concluded in Busan, the Republic of Korea on November 7.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le NamThang, head of the Vietnamese delegation, Vietnam’s proposals tonarrow the digital standard gap between countries and develop specificcriteria and data on telecommunications development were both approvedby ITU members.

Addressing the closing ceremony, RoKofficial Min Won-Ki, who chaired the event, hailed the high level ofconsensus between member countries, with 71 resolutions approved,including 21 new ones.

Earlier, representatives of150 member countries signed the minutes of the plenary session, focusingon strategic policy orientations for developing information technologyand telecommunications around the world in 2015-2019.

The next event will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2018.

The ITU comprises 193 member states, including Vietnam. A plenarysession is held every four years to review the implementation of theaction plan for the previous term and devise policies and strategies forthe next term.-VNA

Digital heritage opens new avenues for cultural preservation, public access

The Southern Women’s Museum has so far digitised 1,113 artefacts, but only 113 are currently accessible to the public. According to deputy director of the museum Pham Thi Dieu, thousands of other artefacts are awaiting an exhibition system under an expansion project. The museum hopes to complete the system in 2027, enabling online visitors to explore the digitised collections.
