A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare Pham Minh Huan attended the International Labour Conference in the capital city of Geneva, Switzerland on June 14.

At the event, over 200 delegations from many nations discussed the impacts of the global financial crisis, solutions to reduce budget deficit in European countries, employment and salaries in the context of slow economic recovery and still high unemployment rates.

General Director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Juan Somavia called for a strategy to create more jobs and achieve a sustainable economic growth.

The ILO also reviewed the results of the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ meeting in Washington to prepare for the G20 Summit which will be held in Toronto by the end of this month.

The same day, the Vietnamese delegation attended the Ministerial Conference of the Non-aligned Movement and a bilateral meeting with the Singaporean Minister of Manpower./.
