Vietnam bags gold medal at regional chess champs

Vietnamese players won one gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the 2011 Asian Individual Chess Championships, which was held in Mashhad , Iran from May 1-11.

In the blitz chess event,Hoang Thi Bao Tram took the gold after defeating her stronger Chineserival Tan Zhongyi in the final match on May 11.

Meanwhile,Pham Le Thao Nguyen (seed No. 11) and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (seed No.8, elo 2,635) also competed successfully in traditional chess eventswith silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Withthese results, Nguyen and Son will be Asia’s representatives to the 2011World Chess Cup scheduled later this year in Khanty-Mansiysk ,Russia ./.
