Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA)under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) held a conference inHanoi on February 4 reviewing its 2020 work and outlining activities for 2021.

Addressing the gathering, Politburo member, head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission and VCFA Chairwoman Truong Thi Maisaid the VCFA will conduct practical activities to foster bilateral ties, inparticular working more closely with the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi, researchinstitutes and businesses having close ties with Cuba, and trying to engage theyounger generations in those activities.

She suggested holding workshops to popularise the results of the 13th National Party Congress and provide additional information relating to theupcoming eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, thereby raising mutualunderstanding between the two peoples.

Mai also proposed the VUFO work with relevant units to identify measuresto improve people-to-people diplomacy in realising the country’s externalpolicy.  

Participants agreed with the need to set up VCFA chapters in Quang Binhand other localities of potential, as well as to partner with the DefenceMinistry to hold a gathering marking the 60th anniversary of Cuba’sHiron victory (April 19) this year.

The VCFA held a series of activities last year marking the 60th anniversary of Vietnam - Cuba diplomatic ties and raised over 1.5 billion VND (65,000USD) in support of Cuban people in need. It now has 14 chapters at central andlocal levels.

On the occasion, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga presented acertificate of merit to the VCFA in honour of its outstanding achievements in2020./.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses

Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar

On April 8, 28, and May 14, three groups comprising a total of 471 citizens safely returned to Vietnam. This marked an important initial success, paving the way for additional repatriation efforts later this month, with the goal of bringing all remaining Vietnamese citizens stranded in Myawaddy, Myanmar, back home as soon as possible.
