Vietnam Buddhist Academy marks 35th founding anniversary

HCM City (VNA) – The VietnamBuddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City marked its 35th foundinganniversary with a ceremony on December 8 with the attendance of many localofficials, dignitaries of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Great SupremePatriarch of Cambodia Tep Vong.

Delivering his congratulations tothe academy, head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vu ChienThang stressed that the achievements during the academy’s 35-year operationtestify to the development of Buddhist education and training, as well asreflect the care of the Party and State for the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s humanresources training.

The official expressed his hopethat the academy will expand international cooperation towards becoming a Buddhismstudy centre of the world and the Southeast Asian region.

Over its 35-year history, theVietnam Buddhist Academy in HCM City has trained 8,621 monks and nuns, with4,739 already graduating. Most students who graduated from the school areteaching at Buddhist schools nationwide or holding positions in the VietnamBuddhist Sangha. Many of them have become deputies of the National Assembly,People’s Councils and Vietnam Fatherland Front committees at all levels.

The academy has also activelyjoined in the organization of several major international Buddhist events inVietnam, including the three UN Vesak Day celebrations and the 11th Sakyadhita International Conference for Buddhist Women.

On the occasion, the academy received several certificates of merit fromthe Prime Minister, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and the VietnamBuddhist Sangha./.

Vietnam Railways adds trains for upcoming holidays

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.
