Vietnam and Cambodia have adjusted a protocol on their LandTransportation Agreement to increase the number of commercial vehiclesallowed to travel between the two countries by 100 every year.
The adjustment, made during bilateral talks on land transportation onDecember 24 in Ho Chi Minh City, also aims at unlimited number ofthe vehicles in the future.
At the talks, the twosides agreed to continue reviewing the transportation of passengers andlisting enterprises, vehicles and transportation forms for bettermanagement.
They also pledged to revoke licences ofvehicles violating the agreement and the protocol. Besides, they willsimplify procedures for cross-border transportation.
Vietnam and Cambodia will boost their coordination with Laosto launch a tripartite memorandum of understanding on landtransportation.
Speaking at the talks, Nguyen VanQuyen, deputy head of the Vietnam Road Transportation Administration,said that during the past years, the number of Vietnam’s commercialvehicles crossing the border reached 500, meeting the increasing demandof passenger and goods transportation of both countries and helpingconsolidate bilateral friendship.
Chan Dara, head ofthe Cambodian Transportation Department, said the agreement has madesignificant contributions to the transportation of goods between the twocountries.
However, he also pointed out someproblems arising during the implementation of the agreement, includingthose faced by enterprises in establishing their branches.
According to the Vietnam Road Transportation Administration, in 2012,Vietnam granted 903 licences for non-commercial vehicles crossingthe Vietnam-Cambodia border. As of December 15, Vietnam licenced 500vehicles transporting goods and passengers between the two countries.
