Vietnam, China discuss less sensitive areas of cooperation at sea

The 12th round of negotiations of the Vietnam-China working group on partnership in less sensitive maritime fields took place in Zhuhai of Guangdong, China on December 5-6.
Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th round of negotiations of the Vietnam-China working groupon partnership in less sensitive maritime fields took place in Zhuhai ofGuangdong, China on December 5-6.

In a straightforward and friendly manner, thetwo sides reviewed the implementation of projects signed during the 11thnegotiation round and discussed new collaboration projects.

They spoke highly of the successful implementation of a project that studied andcompared Holocene sediments in the Red River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta,as well as the positive results of projects on cooperation in releasing fry andprotecting aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin, and in studying themanagement of the sea and island environment in the Gulf of Tonkin.

They continued to discuss measures to accelerate the signing of an agreement onsearch and rescue cooperation in the waters of Vietnam and China; realisecollaboration contents related to marine search and rescue; as well as thoseregarding the signing of an agreement on the establishment of a hotline for offshore fishing emergencies.

The sides stressed that cooperation should be made on the basis of commonperceptions and agreements reached between the senior leaders of the two partiesand states in line with international law.

They need to continue the spirit of mutual respect, equality, and win-wincooperation in a practical and effective manner in line with each side’sresources, practically contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Chinacomprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The two sides agreed to organise the workinggroup’s 13th round of talks in Vietnam in the first half of 2019. –VNA
