Vietnam, China promote legislative ties

The maintenance of friendship and sound cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese parliaments will help develop the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a sustainable manner.

Saint Petersburg (VNA) –
The maintenance offriendship and sound cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese parliamentswill help develop the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership in a sustainable manner.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly of VietnamNguyen Thi Kim Ngan made the remark at a reception for Vice Chairperson of the StandingCommittee of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC) Zhang Ping in Saint Petersburg city on October 15 on the sidelines ofthe 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) in Russia.

She said the Vietnamese Party and State treasureties with their Chinese counterparts, regarding this as a top priority in theforeign policy of Vietnam.

The top legislator called on the two sides tostrengthen coordination to prepare for high-level delegation visits from now tothe year’s end, including the State-level visit to Vietnam by General Secretaryof the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of ChinaXi Jinping, who is due to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the centralcity of Da Nang in November 2017.

She invited NPC leaders to participate in the26th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Hanoi from January 18-21, 2018.

The Chairwoman suggested the two countries’ministries, departments and localities implement common perceptions reached bytop leaders of the two countries, expand win-win collaboration in line withtheir development strategies, and bring bilateral cooperation to a new heightin a more balanced and effective way.

She noted that the 14th National Assembly ofVietnam established the Vietnam-China friendship parliamentary group chaired byNA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty. A delegation from the group will visit China inDecember to promote parliamentary ties, she added.

For his part, Zhang Ping said Vietnam and China should promotesolidarity, friendship and move towards win-win cooperation and addressdisagreements.

He said China is willing to cooperate withVietnam to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership, adding that the two sides need to effectively implementcollaborative programmes and projects while seeking cooperation opportunitieswithin the China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative and building a corridor ofeconomic connectivity.

Regarding legislative ties, the Chinese officialsaid the two sides have maintained delegation exchanges, especially athigh-levels. In 2016, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NationalPeople’s Congress of China Zhang Dejiang visited Vietnam. The two countries’top legislators had successful talks, creating a foundation to elevatebilateral parliamentary relations. 

China is ready to work with Vietnam to implementall cooperation agreements and increase experience sharing between the twocountries’ parliaments, which will contribute to enhancing mutual understandingbetween their peoples and lay an important foundation for the building of ahealthy relationship, he added.-VNA
