Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam on August 23 demanded that Taiwan (China) immediately cease all live-fire drills on Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and refrain from such actions in the future.

During a regular press conference on August 23, Vice Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Phuong Tra also stressed that Vietnam once again resolutely opposes those actions.

The official was answering queries from reporters on Vietnam’s reaction to Taiwan’s recent live-fire drills.

Taiwan’s continuation of live-fire drills on Ba Binh Island in Truong Sa archipelago – where Vietnam has legal basis and historic evidence to affirm its sovereignty – has seriously violated Vietnam’s sovereignty, threatened navigation and aviation security and safety in the region, caused tensions, and complicated the situation, she stated.–VNA
