Vietnam demonstrates humanitarian commitment at UN bazaar

Vietnam showcased its unwavering humanitarian commitment as the country attended the annual UN international bazaar held by the UN Women’s Guild (UNWG) in Geneva on November 19.

Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam showcased its unwavering humanitarian commitment as the country attended the annual UN international bazaar held by the UN Women’s Guild (UNWG) in Geneva on November 19.

Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, World Trade Organisation and other international organisations in Geneva, told the Vietnam News Agency that with two national booths at the event, the Vietnamese mission not only promoted traditional dishes and handicrafts but also reinforced the country’s commitment to supporting global charitable activities.

The fair, attracting thousands of visitors, aimed at raising funds for projects to support underprivileged children across the globe, demonstrating the UN’s spirit of cooperation and multilateralism.

It featured culinary displays, souvenirs, and lottery opportunities, with all of the proceeds going to charity.

Over the years, UNWG has provided critical material and spiritual support for disadvantaged children, offering disaster relief, scholarships, and hopes./.

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.

Vietnam among countries with high human development: UNDP report

According to the report, which evaluates human development progress based on the Human Development Index (HDI), tracking achievements in health, education and income, Vietnam’s HDI in 2023 reached 0.766, ranking 93rd out of 193 countries and territories. This marked a substantial leap from 0.499 in 1990, representing a 53.5% increase, a notable trajectory of growth over more than three decades.
