Vietnam, Egypt discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties

Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Sonon June 5 held phone talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry todiscuss measures to promote bilateral relations and cooperation between the twocountries at multilateral forums.

During their talks, the two ministers expressed their joy at the fruitful developmentof the Vietnam – Egypt relationship in recent times, and pledged to furtherdeepen all-around cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed to resume exchange of delegations at all levels and closely coordinatein issues of common concern, and support candidacy of each other atinternational organisations.

FM Son suggested the Egyptian side support Vietnam and the African Union (AU) toset up official relations.

The two officials affirmed to exert their efforts to lift bilateral trade turnoverto 1 billion USD as planned, and share experience and take measures to promote post-pandemictourism recovery.

They exchanged views on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), and support forefforts to solve relevant issues by peaceful measures through negotiations.

The Vietnamese diplomat took the occasion to invite Shoukry to visitVietnam. The Egyptian minister accepted the invitation, and expressed his wishto welcome Son to Egypt at a suitable time./.
