Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam attachessignificance to green growth, safe labour migration and sustainabledevelopment, contributing to achieving economic development sustainableemployment goals.

Vice President ofthe Vietnam GeneralConfederation of Labour (VGCL) Tran Thanh Hai made thestatement at the ongoing 106th International Labour Conference of theInternational Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 12-16. 

Hai underscored the contribution Vietnamese guestworkers have made to Vietnam.

Between 80,000 – 90,000 Vietnamese labourershave worked abroad or undertook apprenticeships each year since 2007. Manycompleted their contracts and returned home with occupational skills,experience and knowledge.

The VGCL has pushed policies to create a legalframework for Vietnamese guest labourers. The organisation has also signed dealswith its counterparts in receiving nations to support and protect Vietnameselabourers, Hai said.

On June 12, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalidsand Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan underlined Vietnam’s interest in the ILOGeneral Director Guy Rider’s report on employment amidst climate change andgreen initiatives.

Vietnam, one of the nations most at risks fromclimate change, has worked to adapt to climate change at various levels toprotect vulnerable groups and promote green growth, Lan affirmed.

The Government of Vietnam has launched numerousprogrammes on vocational training while promoting social welfare and expandingsocial insurance coverage.

Vietnam has made efforts to complete a legalframework and policies on labour and employment, as well as implementing therights of labourers, ensuring social welfare for people, particularly women,children, the disabled and the elderly.

The country has looked to consolidate the statemanagement mechanism on labour relations and vocational education to improvelabour relationships and human resource quality.

On the sidelines of the conference, theVietnamese delegation met with ILO General Director Guy Rider and SecretaryGeneral of the World Federation of Trade Unions George Mavsikos, andleaders of trade unions of Australia, Singapore, Laos, Belarus, Cuba, Sweden,Switzerland, the US, and China.   

The annual event, taking place from June 5 sawthe participation of 4,000 representatives from governments, trade unionorganisations and employers from 187 ILO member nations.-VNA

Da Nang tightens fishing vessel management to have EC's IUU yellow card lifted

Under the official dispatch, commune and ward-level authorities must closely monitor every non-compliant fishing vessel within their jurisdiction. Vessel owners are prohibited from taking their boats to sea without complete legal documents and are required to remove all fishing gear and equipment from vessels that are not eligible to operate.

Vietnam breaks ground on 72 boarding schools in border areas to advance equitable education
