Vietnam Fatherland Front upholds great national unity

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has highlighted the role of the great national unity in national development via a series of activities in 2016, President of the VFF Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan told the press on the occasion of the New Year.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has highlighted the role of thegreat national unity in national development via a series of activities in 2016,President of the VFF Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan told the press on theoccasion of the New Year.

During 2016, the VFFintroduced nominees to the election of deputies to the 14th NationalAssembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure anddirectly supervised the election process.

The front’sall-level chapters raised 214 billion VND (9.3 million USD) in support ofnearly 1.2 million people hard hit by the Formosa-caused marine environmentincident and prolonged flooding in the central region, droughts and salineintrusion in the Central Highlands and the south.

It conductedinspection on food hygiene and environment pollution caused by thermal powerplants, as well as continued a survey on the public satisfaction about servicesof the State administrative agencies.

On promoting the connectivityof religions, the VFF signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry ofNatural Resources and Environment and 40 accredited religious organisations on environmentprotection and climate change response, as well as collected public feedback onthe draft Law on Belief and Religion to submit to the National Assembly foradoption.

Regarding thecampaign “All people stay united to build new rural areas and civilised urbanareas”, Nhan said the VFF partnered with ministries and agencies to issuerelevant criteria to be applied in 2017.-VNA

Coast Guard Region 2 promotes IUU-free fishing among Quang Ngai fishermen

The Command of Coast Guard Region 2 briefed the fishermen on the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, the Fisheries Law, and legal documents related to IUU prevention. Officers also provided guidance on identifying areas under Vietnam’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, traditional fishing grounds, warning zones, and prohibited fishing areas.
