During its stay in France, the Vietnamese delegation had workingsessions with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the FrenchMinistry of Health to discuss assistance projects on the upgrading andpurchase of equipment for Hanoi Medical University, and the building of ageneral hospital in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
Minister Tien also held talks with her French counterpart, Nora Berra,during which they reviewed traditional bilateral cooperation, especiallythe implementation of an agreement on medical and pharmaceuticalcooperation signed in February 1993. They agreed to ink more agreementson intensive research projects.
The Vietnamese ministerused the occasion to ask France to help the country in areas such asintensive training, technological transfer and measures to treatinfected and uninfected diseases.
Within the framework ofthe visit, the Vietnamese health officials made fact-finding tours ofFrench research institutes and universities, which have providedassistance to Vietnam in training.
On the occasion,Minister Tien presented “For People’s Health” insignias to a number ofFrench professors and doctors, who have greatly contributed to Vietnam’s health sector./.
