Vietnam, France beef up medical cooperation

A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health led by Minister NguyenThi Kim Tien is on a working visit to France from Sept. 22-27.

During its stay in France, the Vietnamese delegation had workingsessions with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the FrenchMinistry of Health to discuss assistance projects on the upgrading andpurchase of equipment for Hanoi Medical University, and the building of ageneral hospital in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

Minister Tien also held talks with her French counterpart, Nora Berra,during which they reviewed traditional bilateral cooperation, especiallythe implementation of an agreement on medical and pharmaceuticalcooperation signed in February 1993. They agreed to ink more agreementson intensive research projects.

The Vietnamese ministerused the occasion to ask France to help the country in areas such asintensive training, technological transfer and measures to treatinfected and uninfected diseases.

Within the framework ofthe visit, the Vietnamese health officials made fact-finding tours ofFrench research institutes and universities, which have providedassistance to Vietnam in training.

On the occasion,Minister Tien presented “For People’s Health” insignias to a number ofFrench professors and doctors, who have greatly contributed to Vietnam’s health sector./.

Intellectual cooperation deepens Vietnam–France relations: expert

Dr Frederic Roustan highlighted the importance of scientific and intellectual cooperation, saying that despite ups and downs in bilateral diplomatic, political and economic relations over the decades, connections between French and Vietnamese scientists and intellectuals have been maintained, contributing to exchanges between the two countries.

Ministry proposes seven-day 2027 Lunar New Year holiday

Under the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposal, civil servants and public employees in Vietnam would receive five statutory days off, including two days before and three days after the Lunar New Year. As two of those days fall on the weekend, they would receive two additional compensatory days off, bringing the total holiday to seven consecutive days.

Vietnam’s hiring outlook to see strong growth in Q4

In Vietnam, among 285 businesses surveyed, 52% expected to increase hiring in Q4, 16% planned to reduce hiring, while 32% intended to maintain their current workforce levels, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

‘Small bricks’ help strengthen Vietnam-France ties

Dr. Gildas Tréguier, Secretary-General of the France-Vietnam Health Federation (FSFV), said the visit comes as Vietnam is opening further to the world and entering a new stage of development, creating greater demand for experience sharing and closer cooperation with international partners, including France. After nearly 40 years of involvement in medical cooperation programmes with Vietnam, he said bilateral ties have been built not only through major events and government-level agreements, but also through the contributions of generations of people.
