Paris (VNA) – Minister of Public Security General To Lam held talks withFrench Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmaninon November 4 in the framework of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s officialvisit to France.

Minister Darmanin affirmed the importance of General To Lam’svisit, which he said contributes to promoting bilateral collaboration insecurity and order, especially in fighting transnational crimes such aseconomic crimes, illegal migration and high-tech crimes.

The minister affirmed France’s commitment to continue makingactive contribution to the maintenance of peace, stability, security and safetyof maritime and aviation in the East Sea, while strengthening collaboration withthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in all fields, including enhancinglaw enforcement capacity at sea of all countries in the East Sea region.

France is willing to intensify cooperation with Vietnam insecurity and police affairs, particularly training and providing equipment forVietnam’s firefighters and emergency rescuers.       

Minister Lam said Vietnam always considers France one of thetop partners in its external policy for peace, cooperation and development inthe region and the world. Vietnam appreciates France’s role in the EU and its strategyon France and Security in the Indo-Pacific, he said.

Lam noted that the cooperative ties between the twoministries are growing more effective in many aspects, such as sharing professionalinformation and criminal data, training, and fighting transnational crime,especially human trafficking and high tech crime.       

The two sides agreed to bolster their partnership via increasingmutual visits, sharing information, and work together to fight illegalmigration.

At the end of their talks, the two ministers signed a letterof intent on the French ministry’s help to improve the capacity of firefightingand search and rescue for Vietnam./.
