Minister of Defence General Phung Quang Thanh met with his Frenchcounterpart Jean- Yves Le Drian in Paris on June 19 during theVietnamese Defence Ministry delegation’s working trip in Europe.
Minister Phung Quang Thanh affirmed Vietnam always treasures relationswith France, stressing that the strategic partnership of the twocountries brings new opportunities and potentials for cooperation invarious fields including defence.
He spoke highly of France’scrucial role in Europe and in the world and expressed thanks to Francefor its support of Vietnam in the process of joining the InternationalHydrographic Organisation.
For his part, the French DefenceMinister hailed Vietnam’s socio-economic achievement, affirming that thesoutheastern country has demonstrated its increasingly important rolein the international arena as well as in building the ASEAN Community.
He emphasized France’s intention to boost ties with Vietnam across the fields, particularly in defence.
The two defence ministers shared the view that defence collaborationin the past few years has seen development as seen in the exchange ofdelegation, the sharing of experience in military medicine, training andhydrography as well as in peacekeeping activities of the UnitedNations.
They agreed to promote these activities inthe coming time, while creating favourable conditions for Frenchdefence enterprises to gain access to Vietnamese market.-VNA
