An air route from Haikou, in China’s Hainan province, to Noi Bai Airport, Hanoi, and waterways from Yangpu to Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City will open soon to foster cooperation between Vietnam and Hainan.

Hainan’s provincial Governor Luo Baoming affirmed this while being received by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on July 9.

Vietnam and Hainan’s businesses will cooperate in auto and agricultural machinery, starting with the cooperation between Faw Auto Company and the Vietnam Motor Industry Group to build an auto assembly plant in southern Can Tho city, the Governor said.

The business forum between Vietnam and Hainan the same day witnessed the signing of 18 contracts worth over 300 million USD, he related.

The governor also asked Vietnam for cooperation in education and training.

PM Dung expressed his pleasure at the increased comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China , affirming that Vietnam will do its utmost to lift bilateral relations to a new height, making them deeper and more practical in various fields, including boosting all-around cooperation between bordering areas.

He also spoke highly of the Hainan Governor’s visit, saying he believed that it would contribute to boosting Vietnam-China and Vietnam-Hainan relations.

In his opinion, Vietnam and Hainan province have strong potential of cooperation, suggesting the two sides open air routes from Hainan to Hanoi and HCM City and waterways from the island province to Hai Phong and Nghe An provinces and HCM City .

Vietnam and Hainan province should also enhance education and training, culture and tourism, he said.

Host and guest exchanged measures to further Vietnam-Hainan relations in order to tap their potential.

Accordingly, they will continue exchange and set up cooperation mechanism between Hainan province and Vietnam’s ministries, agencies and localities to boost economic, trade, tourism and transport cooperation.

Additionally, they will intensify collaboration in the implementation of the Vietnam-China Agreement on Maritime Delimitation and Fishery Cooperation in the Tonkin Gulf and set up a cooperative mechanism for saving fishermen in distress.

Earlier the same day, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem received Governor Luo Baoming, describing the latter’s visit a practical step to strengthen economic exchange between Hainan and Vietnam’s localities.

The two sides agreed to enhance trade, tourism, sea transport cooperation and to open a direct Hainan-Hanoi air route in the near future, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

Governor Luo Baoming said his visit aims to intensify economic cooperation between Hainan province and Vietnam, especially in trade, sea transportation and aviation, contributing to speeding up economic-trade cooperation between the two countries as well as between Vietnam and China’s localities.

Hainan’s provincial Governor attended working sessions with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Transport, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and visited HCM City./.
