Rome (VNA) – Officials of several regions in Italy have expressed their wish to establish direct cooperative ties with Vietnamese localities during their recent meetings with Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien.

Vice President of Puglia Region Domenico Laforgia told the Ambassador that the region hopes to find suitable Vietnamese partners for joint research, exchange of lecturers and students in the framework of the Vietnam-Italy plan of action in the field of environment, biological technology, health care and justice.

With its strength in tourism, Puglia is also willing to partner with Vietnamese localities in building tourism products and managing tourism activities for mutual benefit.

Ambassador Thien supported the region’s proposals and suggested setting up a Vietnam information desk there to provide information and coordination between the two sides.

Chairman of Piedmont region’s council Mauro Laus was also of the view that local-level cooperation is a suitable and practical model.

Mayor of Turin city Chiara Appendino pledged to promote the twinning relationship between Turin and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese side recommended that Piedmont businesses consider investment in hi-tech agriculture, farm produce processing, precision mechanical engineering, renewable energy, tourism and heritage conservation in Vietnam.
