Rome (VNA) – An official of the Italian foreign ministry said at a recent celebration of Vietnam’s 74th National Day (September 2) that in a rules-based international order, the two countries can cooperate within the framework of the United Nations so as to promote the effectiveness of multilateralism.
At the event in Rome on September 12, Luca Sabbatucci, Director General of Global Affairs at the ministry, congratulated Vietnam on its election as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021, expressing his hope that the country will actively make contributions to the international community.
Proposing stronger cooperation within the UN framework, he said in an inter-connected and globalised world like it is now, no countries can make unilateral actions.
The official also reviewed the all-round successes in the two nations’ strategic partnership, from politics, economy, security and defence to culture, education and people-to-people exchange.
He noted 2019 has marked a special success in Vietnam-Italy relations with a series of visits to the Southeast Asian country by Italian leaders like Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in June and then Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi in May.
Italy is looking forwards to the upcoming trip by Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien, he added.
