Vietnamese and Japanese experts gathered in Hanoi on Mar. 26 at a seminar on application of information technology in energy saving and environmental management.

At the seminar, participants heard reports on energy-saving technologies, environmentally friendly products and experiences of developed countries, especially the latest experiments by Japanese companies in Vietnam .

Under a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications signed in September 2010, the two sides agreed to cooperate in application of information technology in environmental activities and energy saving through a pilot project in 2012.

The project is aimed at preventing natural disasters and energy saving through an information and communications system and sensor network.

The results of the pilot project will provide important basis for an approval of official development assistance for the expansion of the environmental monitoring and natural disaster warning system for Vietnamese localities that may be extended to other Southeast Asian nations.-VNA
