Vietnam joins Asia’s largest street festival in Singapore

Singapore (VNA) – An art delegation of Vietnam joined the 2018Chingay Parade celebrating the Lunar New Year in Singapore, which drew theparticipation of more than 6,000 performers.

The annual festival, held at the Formula One Pit building near the SingaporeFlyer Ferris wheel on February 23-24 and the China Town on February 25, is ahighly-anticipated event and also the largest street performance and parade inAsia.

Mai Ba Hung, Deputy Director of HCM City Department of Cultural, Sports andTourism and head of the Vietnamese delegation to the 2018 Chingay Parade, saidthat this is the third time that Vietnam has joined the event.

The Vietnam’s delegation wants to foster cultural exchange with Singaporean andinternational artists, as well as learn more experience to organise large-scalestreet festival in HCM City in the future.

Started in 1973, the Chingay Parade has become one of the major cultural eventsof Singapore.

This year, the event included a series of multi-ethnic cultural performances bylocal talents and international acts featuring decorated floats, along with adisplay of lights, lasers, pyrotechnic and firework display of hostSingapore.-VNA
