The central province of Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan province of Laos jointly organised a ceremony on July 12 to announce the upgrade of the Ten Tan-Xom Vang border gate into a national one.

The event which took place at the Ten Tan-Xom Vang national border gate, is part of activities to mark the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos Amity and Cooperation Treaty and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations.

The upgrade is of great significance, facilitating trade and economic development cooperation in the common border area as well as promoting the friendship and economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation among the two countries’ bordering provinces.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor of the Hua Phan province Khamhunghuong Vong Si called on local people along the border to closely coordinate to promote socio-economic development and fully tap potential and strengths of the Ten Tan-Xom Vang border gate and raise their responsibility to defend national security and sovereignty.

Under a project to reinforce and upgrade the Vietnam-Laos national land marker system, both Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan provinces have so far defined 85 locations and planted 89 markers. National border marker 281 at the Ten Tan-Xom Vang border gate is the second one that was inaugurated following marker 327 at the Na Meo-Nam Xoi international border gate in August 2011.

The inauguration of marker 281 is a great significant event, marking a new development step in the two provinces’ comprehensive cooperation.

The two provinces are determined to complete land border delineation and marker planting in the field this month, contributing to completing the two countries’ border demarcation and marker planting work and turning the common border into one of peace, special friendship and cooperation, stability and long-term development.-VNA
