Vietnam, Laos inaugurate second border marker

It is the first of 61 border markers needed to be planted on the 170 km-long Quang Binh section and the second along the Vietnam-Laos borderline under a joint plan to strengthen the two countries’ border marker system from 2008-2014.

The first border marker was planted at Lao Bao district, Quang Tri province, that borders Savanakhet province of Laos .

The freshly-inaugurated border marker, 1.6 m high and 0.9 m wide, was built by marbles at a cost of over 2 billion VND and pinned with the national emblem of Vietnam and Laos .

At the inauguration ceremony, leaders from the two provinces shared a view that the event was evidence of the special solidarity, friendship and long-term cooperation between the two countries.

They pledged to join hands in defending the joint border marker system and turn the border section along the two sister provinces into the one of peace and friendship./.
